Celia Carrera Olivares SILENT LETTERS IN ENGLISH A silent letter in a word is a letter (or a letter combination) which is written but not pronounced, such as the “b” in the word “doubt”, the “c” in “scissors” , or the “g” in “design”. Some examples in which there are silent letters would be: Psychology /saɪˈkɒlədʒɪ/. There is a silent “p” Bridge /brɪdʒ/. There is a silent “d” Wrist /rɪst/.
