SILENT LETTERS IN ENGLISH

A silent letter in a word is a letter (or a letter combination) which is written but not pronounced, such as the “b” in the word “doubt”, the “c” in “scissors” , or  the “g” in “design”.

Some examples in which there are silent letters would be:

• Psychology /saɪˈkɒlədʒɪ/. There is a silent “p”
• Bridge /brɪdʒ/. There is a silent “d”
• Wrist /rɪst/. There is a silent “w”
